PRAVEEN MURDER CASE (PALLURUTHY)

Praveen murder case: accused brought to Palluruthy
KOCHI, FEB. 26. The police team investigating the murder of Praveen today brought the main accused, R. Shaji, former Dy.SP (Administration), Malappuram, to Palluruthy for the second time to collect evidence.
The team, led by the investigating officer, B. Muraleedharan Nair, Dy.SP, Kottayam, took Shaji and his accomplice Binu to the shop from where they are said to have bought the spade used to bury the victim's head.
The police team visited Eramalloor in Alappuzha where the head was buried before Shaji dug it out and threw it into the backwater. The severed head was recovered from the Naval Ship Repair Yard last Thursday.
The gloves used by the accused, the spade and strands of hair, believed to be that of the victim, were recovered from the spot.
As the news spread that the accused were being brought to collect evidence, a crowd gathered at the spot. However, the police team kept Shaji in the jeep and only Binu was taken to the shop.
Both were later taken back to Kottayam.
They were remanded to police custody for seven days by the Ettumanur First Class Judicial Magistrate on Friday.

Funeral held
From Kottayam: The body of Praveen (Unni-25), the victim of the sensational murder case, was buried at his house compound today evening. Hundreds of people had gathered to have last glimpse of the body.
The body, after post mortem, was handed over to the relatives by 12.45 p.m. by the Kottayam Government Medical College authorities. Praveen's uncle, Raju, received the body. Hundred of people had gathered at the house at Mevakkad near Ettumanur when the coffin carrying the severed body arrived. It was closed and a photograph of Praveen was placed on the lid.
The funeral was held in the evening when the body was placed at a specially constructed chamber for burial.
Thomas Chazhikkadan, MLA, Ajitha Sabu, district panchayat president, and others were also present on the occasion.
